Early to Rise

I was sitting around watching Brady play on Thursday and began thinking about how my life had changed since he was born. The best example I could think of was that morning. Before Brady I would only wake up early for work and even then it was a struggle. Now this is a more often than not occurrence. That morning Brady and I had woken up, played the piano and sang songs, eaten breakfast, blogged, played with toys and had a nap, all before 9:30. He's an early to bed, early to rise kind of guy.

The Vinyl Cafe

On Tuesday night Stuart McLean was in Fort McMurray doing a taping of The Vinyl Cafe. It's a show that is broadcast on CBC radio and Stuart McLean is the host. He tells stories mostly about the same family and they are super funny. There is also music on the show. They go around Canada and do live tapings to broadcast on the radio. We were able to go and it was a ton of fun! The musical guests were Harry Manx and John Sheard and they were amazing. Harry Manx plays guitars and other such instruments and sings and John Sheard is a pianist and he played an awesome Hollywood medley for us that had 33 different movie theme songs in it. I linked their names above to some of their music if you are interested. During the show Brady won John Sheard's CD for being the youngest member of the audience!

Here we are after the show. Brady is dead asleep but we all had a really great time! The stories were really funny and Brady loved the music.

And yesterday was Halloween so here are a couple pictures of Brady's 1st Halloween!

4 Months

We can't believe Brady is already 4 months old! Brady is growing fast. He has already doubled his birth weight and is somewhere around 14-14.5 lbs depending on which scale you put him on. He is almost in the 50th percentile of weight for his age but is still small. He has finally upgraded to 3-6 month clothing in everything except pants.

Brady loves his dad. Every night Cody gets home just in time to play for about 45 minutes before its time to get ready for bed and he loves it. He laughs and laughs and then is really ready to sleep when he goes down.

Brady and Ruby are best friends!

He is getting pretty good at sitting with support. He has also really started to play with his toys and LOVES to put them in his mouth. He is constantly trying to chew on everything, maybe he is starting to show signs of teething already. He especially likes to chew on his Sophie giraffe and plastic chains.

He still loves to be read to and look at books and his new favourite games are Peek-A-Boo and when we blow on his tummy to make fart noises, I don't know what that is called, but he loves it!

Brady has rolled over a few times now front to back and is still working on going the other way.

Bath time is his favourite thing to do. He loves to kick his legs and splash the water and will lay in the tub for hours if we would let him. He never fusses and smiles the whole time, until he has to get out, then it's a race to get him lotioned, diapered and dressed before he loses it.

Brady has started something new this past week. He won't go to sleep unless his is laying on his side. And if he gets turned onto his back I will often find him like this trying to crane his neck and turn back up. He used to be a really good sleeper during the night but this week has been really bad. Last night he was up 6 times between 11 and 7 and he will only take 25 minute naps during the day. I'm not sure if something is bothering him or if he is just growing a lot right now, but we will persevere and hope it gets better because mommy is getting really tired!!

Loving his Mickey Mouse pajamas

All bundled up and ready to brave the cold snowy weather
Last night we carved pumpkins. Mine is the baby one and Cody's is Frankenstein who had an unfortunate loss of his right eye. He accidentally carved it off. He was pretty disappointed but it provided us with hours of laughs!

And here is Brady at 4 months with his special pumpkin to commemorate his first Halloween!

Busy Weekend

This weekend was really busy but full of really awesome experiences. We left town Sunday and headed down to Edmonton for a non stop quick getaway. Sunday night we left Brady at my sister's house (which we are super grateful for...thanks Em and Trev!) and went out on our first date together since he was born. This is where we went.

Rush is a Canadian band that has been together for something like 38 years. I think they are more from my Dad's era than mine but they are one of if not the number one of Cody's favorite bands and it has been on his bucket list for years to see them live in concert. A few months back I heard they were coming to Edmonton and being the awesome wife that I am, I surprised him with floor tickets for his birthday.

This is the drummer of the band Neil Peart. He is a big reason why Cody loves the band. Cody is a drummer and Neil Peart is, as I've been told, one of the greatest drummers of all time. We had a ton of fun at the concert and I have to say, for as old as these guys are (they are all age 59-60) they are still really amazing at what they do.

The next morning we all slept in until about 10:30, even Brady wasn't ready to get up yet

When we did finally get ourselves together we got back in the car and headed to Calgary. It was a pretty frustrating drive. It took an hour and a half just to get from South Common to just before Nisku because they were filling cracks in the highway at noon and traffic was all backed up, needless to say we should have been at least 3/4 of the way to Calgary by the time we even left the city and Cody was not too impressed. Once we did finally get there though we were able to go to the Calgary Temple open house and all the hassle of driving was worth it.

The temple was absolutely beautiful and it was an amazing experience to be able to go with my family and see it. The spirit was so strong and I think I can say without a doubt that we all felt it very strongly. We left Calgary right after the open house and headed back to Edmonton. It was a long trip to just spend 2 hours in the city but the reason we went was totally worth it all. Its amazing all the effort and thought that goes into all the little details inside the temple.

The next morning we had to go to the bank, which took forever and then finally we were back on the road heading north to Fort McMurray. It was such a full non-stop travelling trip, but its always nice to get away.

Fall Is Here

This is the tree outside our house. It is completely bright yellow meaning fall is here! It was a busy summer. Brady and I were able to go home for a couple weeks and visit. It was a lot of fun! Brady got to meet all sorts of family and I was also able to meet up with some good friends. I also spent a lot of time working on our house in Magrath.

While we were home I let Brady taste his first popsicle. He loved it!

Here are a few more pictures of Brady just for fun. Lately he has really begun to enjoy watching cartoons. It has been helpful to be able to plop him in front of the tv for a few minutes while I get dinner on the go...yes I use the tv as a babysitter sometimes...it's wonderful!

My Super Hero Baby

Watching TV
Yesterday I put Brady in his Jolly Jumper to see if he would like it. He doesn't know how to jump in it yet but did laugh and smile when I helped him bounce, for a bit then he got upset. We'll try again in a couple weeks.

Not sure what to think of his Jolly Jumper
This fall Brady and I will be keeping busy while Cody is at work all day. Every week we get to do fun things like Mommy and Me Yoga on Thursdays, Good Beginnings mom and baby group with guest speakers on Wednesdays, and Book Babies at the library on Fridays. And come November we will be starting Swimming Lessons!! I am super excited about that. Brady loves bath time so I am hoping he will love swimming too!

Storytime

Reading The Little Engine That Could!

Monday, July 30, 2012

It's almost midnight and I'm laying in bed trying to figure out how to use this blogger app. I can't sleep. Tonight I decided to put my baby in his crib in his own room to fall asleep. I didn't think he would last long in there by himself. Turns out he seems to really like his crib and hasn't slept this soundly for a while. I can't bring myself to move him and risk waking him but I also can't seem to sleep. I don't have a monitor and I'm really afraid I won't hear him when he wakes up! It's bitter sweet.
Brady is starting to really grow. I think he is going through a growth spurt because he wants to eat every hour or two all day. And once we finish this pack of newborn diapers he will be graduating to size one! That's probably something only a new mother appreciates and gets excited about. He is 6 weeks and seems to love music. He also loves a nice warm bath! I can alway count on that to calm him down when he is screaming at the end of a long day. He's such a sweetheart!
Being a cutie pie!
All happy after a warm bath for bedtime!

One Month

Today this little guy is one month old! Crazy how quickly time flies now that he is here. This past month has been full of decisions and changes. Just after Brady was born Cody had taken time off work to be home with me and the baby. While on vacation he got a call from a well established company offering him a job. The next few weeks were spent doing interviews, calculations and trying to decide if it was the best option for him and for our family. A week and a half ago he gave notice at his old job and will be starting his new position in a couple days. We are both really excited about this opportunity. The company he will be working for has offered to put Cody through school so in a couple years he will have his parts certificate which is a trade that he can use anywhere. He also will be working monday-friday and will be home around 7 every night which is a huge upgrade from his last job. He won't be working nights anymore, which is probably my favourite thing, and although it will be a bit less money for a couple years until he finishes school, it will definitely pay off in the end. I am very proud of him and excited to have him home every night and weekends too!

Also during this past month we were able to have both Cody's and my parents come to visit and meet Brady! Cody's mom and sister came first about a week after he was born. They only stayed for a short visit but we were able to have a bbq and a good visit. My parents came up last weekend. Here they are cuddling Brady

It was so nice to have them here. Unfortunately Cody had to work during their visit but they were so helpful and I was sad to see them go.

Brady has grown a ton in the past month now weighing somewhere around 7lbs 10 oz and is finally starting to fit his newborn clothes! We sure love him to pieces (even though it's 1 AM and he is still wide awake....)!

One of his many favourite faces

Taking a Sunday afternoon nap

He likes to open his eyes real wide

Sometimes he reminds me of Fievel from An American Tale: Fievel Goes West.
He also looks like his cousin Spencer sometimes I think.

Relaxing with daddy

Yay! One month!
